Overview

As the lead product designer it was my responsibility to collaborate with the NBC team and Spectrum product leads to formulate a promotional strategy for olympic content on Spectrum TV apps. I would map out flows for potential touch points with the Spectrum TV experience and negotiate with NBC to obtain required marketing materials to meet said goals. My specific duties as a lead were to obtain marketing materials from NBC, tailor them to a 10 ft experience, identify required services and metadata to power our UI components and delegate key art that I modified for TV to dedicated UI designers to create final platform dependent UI.

Guide Integration Strategy

Part of my role as a lead product designer was to formulate different integration strategies for NBC based on Spectrum markets. The QAM based STB customer base for Spectrum is much larger than its IP counterparts for traditional guide and linear integrations. As such QAM specific integration points which I mapped are displayed below.

IP Promotional Strategies

In contrast to the QAM integration strategies, Spectrum IP platforms support the same guide integrations but also allow the use of promotional tactics through enhanced metadata and graphics. My role was to collaborate with NBC to request new data touchpoints and properly map out the desired outcome in our Spectrum UI as illustrated below. During this phase of the design process I would delegate much of the UI creation to my dedicated UI design partner Kirsten Lukbert.

Promotional Banners

Banners to highlight certain olympic events were used as a key promotional tool. My job was to work with the Spectrum product teams to identify which events would be ideal for promotion and collaborate with NBC to obtain the needed artwork. Since these graphics were not being obtained through Gracenote or any other type of back end service, they had to be manually curated by our team. I would obtain raw marketing artwork from NBC, modify it to fit a 10 ft experience and delegate the creation of final platform specific UI to my team parter Kirsten Lukbert who would take artwork I provided and create the final banners.
