As a senior member of the design strategy team with advanced prototyping skills I was selected to participate in a design sprint to design and validate a concept for a NY1 News mobile application. NY1 had recently been absorbed by Charter Communications during the Time Warner Cable acquisition and talks of a Spectrum News initiative were on the horizon. A cross disciplinary team of design, development, product and business participants was formed and flown to New York for a week-long design sprint. If a convincing business strategy along with a validated design concept could be made, stakeholders would approve a nationwide expansion of Spectrum News modeled off NY1 to include a family of new mobile and tv applications.
Can news related content be leveraged to form a better relationship with Spectrum internet only customers?
In doing so, should news content be blended with entertainment or exist in its own app?
By completing the strategy phases of the design sprint, we decided as a team that the best plan of approach was to consolidate the news content and video content into a single app for the testing.
The usability testing of the prototype and project proposal was a success. At this point my involvement in the project was completed and a new spectrum news design team was formed.
